About the Event
In this class, we will explore our internal landscape and well-being by taking notice of the breath and creating a mind-body-soul connection. Breathing deeply benefits the body by lowering the cortisol levels (our stress hormone) in the body, which takes a person out of fight, flight, or freeze [survival] mode. Those who have very shallow breaths will also likely be on edge, because those shallow breaths mean that someone is on guard, or that their anxiety levels are high and they need to remain alert and ready. The body can only handle being in survival mode for so long before some damaging health issues begin happening such as high blood pressure, ulcers, or at an extreme, heart attacks. We will raise our heartbeat through some strength building work and try to bring ourselves into a place of deep awareness of what we are fully capable of, and then bringing ourselves back down into a space of peace and well-being. By taking deeper breaths, one is able to signal to the body that it is ok to relax, which lowers the heart rate, creates better digestion, and allows more oxygen to the brain thereby allowing one to think more clearly. Together, we will support our best state of wellness by tuning into what needs our attention and acknowledgment, tuning out what is no longer serving our highest good, and pushing ourselves into our next chapter of writing the narrative of our individual stories.
